Repairs & alterations for fabric covers, tarps and awnings

Redland Bay Based Repairs
At LJ Covers, Jason and Leah Kemp repair what most places won’t touch, large industrial tarps, permanent PVC structures, truck curtain-siders, and marquees where a patch done wrong creates a bigger problem than the original tear. We also handle the everyday stuff: tonneau covers, caravan annexes, boat covers, and shade sails.
If there’s usable material left in your cover, it’s almost always worth fixing. Based in Redland Bay, servicing all of SEQ.
What we repair and alter
At LJ Covers we repair and alter a wide range of fabric-based products across canvas, PVC, and poly-fabric. Our Redland Bay workshop handles everything from small everyday repairs to large industrial jobs.
Custom modifications are also on the table. Adding a window, door, ventilation panel, shade wall, or access point is often more practical than sourcing a replacement cover that doesn’t quite fit your setup.
Onsite and mobile repairs across SEQ
Some jobs can’t come to us, a fixed marquee, a large permanent PVC structure, or a curtain-sider that’s part of a working fleet. For sizeable installations across South East Queensland, we offer onsite repairs so your operation doesn’t stop. Contact us to discuss your location and the scope of work.

Why repair A Cover Or Tarp first?
A quality repair done with matched materials and proper seam reinforcement isn’t a compromise — it’s often the smarter call. New custom fabrication takes time and costs more, and if the core material in your cover is still structurally sound, there’s no good reason to replace it. Jason’s view after 25 years on the tools: most covers that come in for a quote are worth fixing. He’ll tell you honestly if they’re not. LJ Covers is a proud member of the Specialised Textiles Association, the peak industry body for technical textile fabrication in Australia.

Repair techniques we use
The repair approach depends on the material, the damage, and what the cover needs to withstand. Most jobs use a combination of these:
Hot Air Welding
Our go-to technique for PVC and poly-fabric repairs. When done correctly, hot-air welding creates a bond stronger than the surrounding material — not just a surface fix, but a permanent join built to handle real working conditions.
Re-Stiching & Seam Reinforcement
Frayed or blown-out seams are repaired and reinforced before they become tears. We re-stitch weak points and add reinforcement at stress areas — corners, edges, and load points, to restore structural integrity and prevent future failure.
Patching & Hardware
We patch holes and worn areas with matched materials and reinforce high-stress points where load concentrates. Hardware replacement covers zips, eyelets, Velcro, buckles, straps, ropes, clear PVC windows, and mesh screens — all replaced with quality components built to last.
Industries We Support
Who We Work With For Repairs And Alterations
Jason Kemp has spent 25 years fabricating and repairing canvas, PVC, and poly-fabric products across Queensland.
He and his wife Leah own and operate LJ Covers in Redland Bay and their view towards repairs is straightforward: if there’s usable material left in a cover, it’s almost always worth fixing. A well-done repair with proper reinforcement, matched material, hot-air welded seams, will adds years to something that would otherwise go to landfill.
tradie or fleet operators
A worn tonneau cover or blown truck curtain is a working tool, not a cosmetic issue. We turn around most straightforward repairs quickly — bring it in or we’ll come to you across SEQ.
caravan or camper owners
Annexes, awnings, and camper covers take real punishment from UV and wind. We repair tears, replace zips and mesh screens, and reinforce stress points so your setup is ready for the next trip.
event hire businesses
Marquees and pavilion tents need regular maintenance to stay hire-ready. We work with hire companies across SEQ on ongoing repairs, seam reinforcement, and hardware replacement to keep inventory in rotation.
mining, agriculture, or construction
Industrial liners, netting, heavy-duty covers, and large tarps that go beyond what a general shop will touch. Jason has worked on large-scale industrial textile projects for over two decades.
homeowners
Shade sails, boat covers, and outdoor awnings are worth repairing when the core material is still sound. Drop it in at the workshop or enquire about our mobile service for larger fixed installations.
Work We Cannot Do
IIf a cover has lost structural integrity across the bulk of the material — severe UV degradation, widespread delamination, or damage beyond repair — we’ll say so. Replacement fabrication is something we do too, and sometimes it’s the more cost-effective path.
